Venison
Sloppy Joes
I've grown up eating wild game, particularly venison. Now, with my own family, venison is one of our major meat sources. I know that not everyone is a hunter, and not everyone enjoys using wild game as a food source, but it works for us. If you want to read more about why we appreciate the hunting lifestyle, you can read more about it in this post. Some say that they do not like the "gamey" taste of venison. While I think a lot of that taste depends on the particular deer that is harvested, this recipe is one that works well for any deer.
This particular recipe is one that my mom always used to make while I was growing up. She'd make it and keep it warm in a slow cooker until it was time to eat. In fact, I remember her making this on the day that my husband and I moved into our first house! She made a double batch and had it warming in the slow cooker, waiting to feed the group of friends and family that were there to help us move.

Recipe Notes:
The recipe itself is fairly simple, and it uses typical items found in your kitchen. No fancy ingredients needed! The recipe calls for the use of ground venison, but ground beef could be substituted as well.
I like to make the recipe when I have time during the day and then let it sit on low in the slow cooker. A small slow cooker works well for this.
I like to store leftovers in glass storage containers so it is easy to just pop them into the microwave to reheat the next day!

Making this recipe always reminds me of her and of times like that one. Shortly after I got married, my mom passed on a collection of recipes to me...of things that she made frequently. This recipe is in that well-loved, much-treasured collection. I hope you enjoy it too!
Or perhaps this simple recipe for making bone broth from turkey or chicken bones!
